Speaker of Parliament Affirms Need for UNIFIL Presence Following Israeli Conflict

Lebanon's Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri has underscored the critical role that UNIFIL forces must play in the post-conflict period, emphasizing their continued presence in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
During remarks to the commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Berri highlighted that UNIFIL's mandate remains essential for facilitating the Lebanese Armed Forces' advance toward the country's international frontiers. He stressed that this deployment should commence immediately following the cessation of Israeli military operations.
The parliamentary leader's statement reflects Lebanon's position that international peacekeeping forces must remain engaged in the region to ensure the full implementation of Resolution 1701 and to bolster Lebanon's military efforts in establishing control over its border areas.
